New Art Centre
September 18, 2012
Ms. Darcey has created a new Art Centre in our full day classroom. As you can see in the pictures below, a lot of thought has gone into this new centre. The space is uncluttered and materials are carefully chosen so that children have the space and time to create something that is unique and beautiful. On the top shelf, various materials are displayed--a few of each kind, within a theme. Children take a metal tray for themselves and are asked to choose the materials that they want to use in their art work. This way, they are given the time and space (without any other distractions) to carefully consider what they want to create. After they have chosen thier materials, they will get the tools to work with from the lower shelves. This may include paper, scissors, glue, paint, stamp pads, etc. When they have finished their masterpiece, children are asked to replace the materials they did not use so that nothing is wasted.
What we have found is that our children are a lot more careful and put a great deal of thought and hard work into their creations. They are no longer mindlessly gluing on chunks of materials or splattering paint without paying any attention. Now, they are careful to create their works of art and take much more pride in their creations. The pieces that they have created are beautiful and displayed for others to see.
Materials are replaced and tools are changed on a regular basis to inspire children to work in this art area. Children are welcome to do art when they choose and are given the time and space to work without the distraction of peers.
Art materials are displayed beautifully to inspire children.
Art materials are changed frequently so that children can create different projects.
Tray for children to use in choosing thier materials and tools.

We are excited to announce our Summer Program this year. Each week will be a different fabulous theme and every Friday morning (weather permitting), we will walk to Paulik Park between Heather and Ash Street, just north of Blundell Road. Please make sure your child is prepared for each theme week and that they have their sunscreen and sunhat at school every day.
